GNSS data handover: what to include with the final coordinates

A reusable survey handover should explain how the coordinates were obtained and checked.

GNSS data handover: what to include with the final coordinates

Deliver the context with the coordinate file

Include point identifiers, feature definitions, horizontal and vertical references, units, correction source, antenna information and relevant field notes. Preserve original observations and processing inputs where the workflow provides them. A coordinate list alone may be difficult to audit or reuse when the original crew is unavailable.

Make the checks visible

Provide a clear record of control comparisons, repeat observations and any excluded or limited data. Identify software transformations and distinguish design, observed and adjusted coordinates. Use an organized file structure and a short manifest so the recipient can trace each deliverable back to the setup and validation evidence.

Practical checklist

Practical checklist

  1. Package coordinates with references and field metadata.
  2. Include independent checks and processing provenance.
  3. Retain original files and a readable handover manifest.
