GNSS near buildings: working in an urban canyon
Tall structures can limit satellite visibility and introduce reflections at the same time.
Visibility and geometry interact
Buildings block parts of the sky and can cause received signals to follow reflected paths. Even if multiple constellations are available, the usable observations may be poorly distributed. A temporary fixed solution in that environment should be assessed with the same control and repeatability discipline as other difficult observations.

Plan control outside the obstruction
Locate suitable control with a clearer sky view, then decide how to transfer the required points into constrained areas. A total station or checked offset may suit some locations better. Record access limitations and compare independent results before treating a convenient receiver reading as accepted project data.

Practical checklist
- Assess the visible sky before selecting the method.
- Establish checked control beyond the main obstruction.
- Compare independent measurements at constrained points.
Plan your GNSS setup
Compare the EQ10 and EQ20 receiver specifications, then discuss the configuration and support your project needs.
